Salvage is covered by Egyptian law No. 8/90 Articles 302-316. If the parties do not agree on the amount of the award they should both apply to the court to quantify this. The court has the right to amend, cease or reject any agreement in respect of salvage.
The quantification is based on the following factors:
Goodwill as a result of the salvage, the results achieved by the parties, the value of the goods salvaged and the freight.
The court has the right to reduce the amount of the salvage award or reject it if it is proved that the party doing the salvage created mistakes which let the salvage be borne.
The time limit for claims is two years from the date of the salvage operations.
All disputes in respect of salvage operations in Egyptian territorial waters are to be applied before the Egyptian courts.
